My impression of TEFLtastic
1. Organisation and Layout
This blog categorizes all the thousands of materials by topics, such as IELTS preparation and games. The layout is simple and functional, avoiding clutter.
2. Content and Features
TEFLtastic brings together new and classic TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) materials in one place through regular updates. Although the content is not original, it provides a convenient way to access the resources and helps teachers find the materials they need more easily.
3. Ease of use and Navigation
The home page of the blog is the most recent update, and readers can understand the general content of the blog by the title. If readers only want to read about a certain aspect, they can also filter through the “Categories” on the right side of the page. The content here is divided into very detailed categories, such as "teaching English in China" or "Disney English"
4. Target Audience
The target audience for the blog is clearly English language teachers. Because of its “mix of classic material and new content”, I think both experienced and novice teachers are likely to be its audience. The majority of the commenters are also teachers, who thank the blog for the parts that are useful to them, or give their own suggestions for some of the content. But I've noticed that seems not many people comment the blogs , and the most recent comment was made a few months ago.
5. Summary
First of all, this blog has made me realize the need to keep the content unique in the creation of blogs, and just carrying other people's content may weaken the impact of the blog. Secondly, I found that most of the content in the blog lacked multimodality, such as instructional videos or images. In the Negative prefixes drawing games section, the blog mentions that students can play a guessing game by drawing pictures of 'uninterested' and 'indecisive'. This type of activity may be more effective if it is accompanied by a schematic diagram.
